Summer has its share of outdoor fairs, festivals and block parties, it’s true. We’ve featured several here on our blog.

We’ve got the Renaissance Festival opening this weekend (we’ll leave that for another post), and the Minnesota State Fair (deep-fried butter on a stick anyone?) opening next Thursday the 26th. With all of the huge events starting up, we thought we’d give mention to a humble little block party that looks like some serious fun.

The Red Stag Block Party is slated for tomorrow, Saturday August 21st from 3 to 1-pm, and will be held on the street in front of the Red Stag Supper Club, 509 1st Avenue NE in Minneapolis. The zero-waste event is free and open to the public. The excitement moves indoors for the afterparty with DJ Christian Fritz after 10pm.

Work up an appetite rocking out to live music and then enjoy locally farmed and organic fare and icy beverages of sundry kinds. Your food and drink purchases will benefit the Ann Bancroft Foundation, supporting girls and women by recognizing individual achievement and by awarding micro grants to under-served Minnesota girls so they can take positive steps towards reaching their goals and realizing their potential.

Here’s the live music lineup:

3:00-3:45 Clementown
4:00-4:35 Boom Boom Belam
4:50-5:25 Bight Club
5:40-6:15 Black Audience
6:30-7:15 Heiruspecs
7:30-7:45 Foxy Tann & the Whambamthankyouma’ams
8:00-8:45 Cory Chisel & the Wandering Sons
9:05-10:00 E.L.nO. (E.L.O. tribute band)

Also enjoy street entertainment by North Star Roller Girls, Familia Skate Shop, and Spot Spa Hula Hoop Contest.

Get on out to the Red Stag tomorrow and celebrate the end of summer. And as a bonus, you can feel good about reusing, recycling and reducing trash with this zero-waste event. Rock out, see some awesome skating and hula hooping, enjoy local organic food, drinks AND save the planet.
