It’s no secret that winter is in full swing, and the St. Paul Winter Carnival kicked off yesterday bringing some fun, festivity and warmth to an otherwise cold, dreary time of year.

Since there is so much to see and do with the Winter Carnival, we thought we’d mention a few things in separate posts. We already mentioned the Autonomous Snowplow Competition, and today we thought we’d tell you about Winterfest at the Germanic-American Institute (GAI), as they put on this first annual event.

The party kicks off tomorrow, Saturday January 28th at 3pm. Show your Minnesota heartiness at the bonfire outside and enjoy the party under the big tent, where refreshments will be served, German Style, including tap beers, fresh grilled bratwurst, and Glühwein, a warm and spicy mulled wine.

Live music at Winterfest will be provided by the band Dale Dahmen and the Beats and Spielmannzug Tanzguard, and you can enjoy German Karneval Games.

Come in costume, as prizes will be given away for the best old woman/hag costume.

The party goes from 3 to 7pm, then moves inside the haus for a Euro Dance Party from 7 to midnight. D.J. Ben will be spinning Retro 70s and 80s Euro pop in the Ratskeller and the bar will continue to be open.

Winerfest happens at GAI at 301 Summit Avenue in St. Paul. For more information about Winterfest or GAI, visit their website at www.gai-mn.org.
