That said, there’s a block party on Girard Avenue, just east of Calhoun Square from noon to 4 in the afternoon. The Uptown Bands and Bikes Block Party is thrown by the new leasing agents at Calhoun Square to celebrate the new renovations happening in the shopping center.
Today’s post, however, is about the Pizza Lucé Block Party, an annual event celebrating summer outdoors with a customer appreciation concert, featuring local music from all corners of the musical spectrum. Local hip hop legends Dessa and Brother Ali will be making you jump and shake your rump. Also making appearances will be the folksy Carline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps, noise pop rockers Red Pens, some up-and-coming local girl rock from Pink Mink, as well as rising stars Lookbook, City on the Make, Guzzlemug, Prof with Rahzwell and more.
The Pizza Lucé Block Party will be in front of Pizza Lucé, at the corner of 32nd and Lyndale from noon to 10pm on Saturday the 14th. There will be Pizza Lucé pizza, beer, and brats available if you decide to stick around and make a day of it. The MN Rollergirls will host a dunk tank for charity, and activities for kids will be happening as well.
Should you decide you want to take a break and get a bite to eat elsewhere, there are literally dozens of restaurants within a short walk from the block party.
This event and the Uptown Bikes and Bands Block Party are both free and open to the public, but are not for pets, so leave Fluffy at home. Bring cash for dining and drinking, however. Also the motorcycle contest at the Uptown shindig has a nominal registration fee of $7 onsite, or $5 if you register online.
