Artists and art lovers, unite! There are several different art crawls taking place around the Twin Cities area this weekend (October 4th-6th).
2013 Skyline Art Crawl
Sponsored by the Skyline Fine Arts Consortium, the second annual Skyline Art Crawl will take place on Saturday, October 5th and Sunday, October 6th at the Maple Grove Government Center.
Just in case you’re unfamiliar with the Skyline Fine Arts Consortium, I’ll give you a bit of a background on it. Founded by a small group of art enthusiasts, the Skyline Fine Arts Consortium is a grassroots, non-profit arts organization that works to promote fine arts throughout the Twin Cities area. The SFAC prides itself with providing both unique opportunities to local artists as well as offering cultural enrichment to the community.
This year’s Skyline Art Crawl is a free event that is open to all ages. It will feature artwork from twenty-plus artists. All of the pieces of artwork on display will be available for both viewing and for purchase, so don’t forget your wallet!
The Skyline Art Crawl is an excellent way to familiarize yourself with some of the fantastic artists that Minnesota has to offer.
St. Paul Art Crawl
Beginning Friday, October 4th and lasting until Sunday, October 6th, the St. Paul Art Crawl will lead you throughout the city and provide you with an expansive amount of art from some of Minnesota’s most established artists.
Kicking off with a launch party hosted by Minnesota Museum of American Art at 4:30 on October 4th in the Project Space, the St. Paul Art Crawl will guide you through the various art studios St. Paul has to offer.
Pedi cabs will be available to bring you from studio to studio in St. Paul where you can participate in artist-lead tours of art galleries, watch artists paint right before your eyes, and gaze upon local art.
An awesome studio you should be sure to stop by is Studio 410 at the Jax Buildings located at 253 E. 4th St. Here, artists Jeff Nelson and DWITT will be painting throughout the entire Art Crawl. When finished, the collaborative work will be raffled off. You don’t want to miss an opportunity to watch an artist in action.
You should also be sure to stop by the Artists’ Alley Mini Fest hosted by the 262 Building and Lowertown Lofts Artists’ Cooperative. This family-friendly mini-festival will provide live performances, free art activities and art demonstrations. The Mini Fest will be a place to take a break from the art crawl and enjoy a few snacks and good company.
The weather in the cities is supposed to be kind of dreary all weekend, so what better excuse to get out of the house than an Art Crawl or two? Take some time this weekend to acquaint yourself with all of the great local art Minnesota has to offer.
