Poultry Royalty at the MN State Fair

Who is ready for some poultry fun at the fair?

The Poultry Prince and Princess contest, sponsored by Minnesota 4-H and Gold’n Plump, will conclude on Sunday with the final coronation ceremony. Free for everyone and fun for all ages, this event takes place at noon on Sunday, August 28 in the Sheep and Poultry Barn.

Contestants of the Poultry Prince and Princess scholarship program will show that they know way more than how to cluck like a chicken (see the fun video below). These chicken contenders will display their superior knowledge of America’s favorite protein at the second-annual contest.

The contest, similar to the Princess Kay of the Milky Way for the dairy industry, gathers Minnesota’s brightest poultry leaders to compete for poultry ambassadorships. WCCO reporter John Lauritsen will not only host this year’s coronation ceremony, but also ask the crowd poultry-related trivia while the scores are tabulated.

Come watch this year’s event and keep your eyes out for these two poultry royalty who won their crown at last year’s inaugural contest, John DeBuhr and Alysha Thielen, pictured above.

A fun fact about Minnesota poultry: Over 26,000 jobs depend on the economic viability of Minnesota’s poultry industry!
