When it comes to Winter, Minnesotans fall into two camps: the hibernators, and those crazy buggers still riding their bikes in January. For those in the adventurous latter category, head to Midwest Mountaineering Winter Expo this weekend, Friday, November 18 – Sunday the 20th!

This year marks the 53rd Winter Expo, a bi-annual Outdoor Adventure Expo event hosted by Midwest Mountaineering. Workshops and presentations take place on both the store grounds and in the nearby U of M West Bank Campus auditoriums.

The event highlights over 85 free outdoor adventure presentations, and featured speakers include Charlie Whittmack, 8000 miles of swimming, bicycling and climbing, the “World Tri”, to the top of Mount Everest starting in England; Lonnie Dupre, “Denali Solo in January”; Paul Sundberg, “Seasons of the North Shore” ; David Liechty, Backpackling the Pacific Crest Trail with “Mom Dad and Baby” and many more. Dave and Amy Freeman will show photos and tell stories about their 900 mile dogsled adventure in northern Canada; glean info on topics ranging from choosing the best skis to how to lighten your backpack.

An amazing gathering of the 70 exhibitors will be on-site representing outfitters, resorts, manufacturers, magazines, outing clubs, environmental groups, trail associations, and more. Need skijoring equipment? Curious about winter camping in the BWCA? Want to update your American Cross Dog First Aid certification? Find the experts at the Winter Expo!

Admission to the Outdoor Adventure Expo is free.
