Headliner, freak R&B/indie dance sensation Har Mar Superstar

According to the forecast, more seasonal spring weather will be making a return just in time for one of Uptown’s biggest parties of the year. With a forecast of sunshine and a high of 72 (for now), it sounds like a perfect day to enjoy a big outdoor block party.

Primarily known for the live local music showcased, the LynLake Street Festival is coming up this weekend, Sunday May 16th, from noon to 7 p.m. in the LynLake neighborhood in the blocks near Lyndale and Lake St.

But there’s more than just the music. The LynLake area, named for the intersection of Lyndale Ave. and Lake St., has dozens of great local and national restaurants in the area when the hunger pangs hit you. There’s also a bike rally you can enter for a $45 fee, which automatically registers you to win a Trek Lime Auto Shifting 3 speed bike. Also included in your registration fee is a discount on a bike tune up from the ALT, a drawstring backpack, and other swag from LynLake businesses, as well as free coffee from Peace Coffee, and Caffrey’s subs and other beverages for the riders.

There will be fire jugglers, balloon artists, strider bike races, and other fun activities as well. Starting at noon on the big stage, the live music starts. This year’s lineup kicks off at noon with local femme-fronted fuzzpop band, The Mood Swings. Then at 1:30, ELO tribute band E.L.nO. takes the stage with six Jeff Lynnes in afro wigs and sunglasses spreading the good vibes “All Over The World.”

Next at 3:00 is local favorite Mark Mallman and his band. If you’re looking for good-time rock n’ roll with a theatrical twist and elements of classical as well as rock, a Mallman show is not to be missed.

Local independent hip-hop artist Sims, of the Doomtree collective, hits the stage for a set of aggressive hip-hop with guests Mike Mictlan and Lazerbeak (also Doomtree artists).

Then headlining the soiree at 5:30 is local freak R&B/dance sensation Har Mar Superstar. Get ready for some intergalactic rump-shaking from this local legend who has several aliases, including Sean Tillmann (his real name…I’ve heard) and Sean Na Na (his former indie bedroom pop alter-ego).

With the return of spring weather this weekend, check out this free, family-friendly event for an afternoon of fun in the sun.
