I used to think LARPing (Live Action Role Playing) was the ultimate in nerd-dom, and not in a good way. I always thought of the LARPing community as the ones who got beat up a lot in school. An event is coming to St. Paul that made me change my tune a bit about those folks with an affinity for comic books and gaming characters.

The World Called FauxHammer is a mostly Twin Cities based community of LARPers which inspired the event called FauxHammer, a delightfully weird mashup of the communities of comic book characters, theater, and music. Fauxhammer is coming to Gremlin Theatre in St. Paul’s Midway neighborhood Friday, April 29th at 8pm. It is a live karaoke role playing event that causes this bizarre collision of music, theater, and live action role playing.

Three actors and audience members interested in participating create their own fantasy domains and bring them to life through dreamed-up characters, live music and group karaoke. Audience members are invited to come in costume if they want.

Tickets can be had for $11. Fauxhammer plays both Friday and Saturday, the 29th and 30th at 8pm both nights. Bust out the Smeagol costume and set the geek-o-meter to maximosity.

Three avatars are faced with the task of singing pop music while fighting off the evil forces of the Overlord. Will they emerge victorious and save the world called FauxHammer? Head over to the Gremlin Theatre Friday or Saturday night to find out.

More info about future shows and times can be found at www.fauxhammer.com.
