In talking to friends and family from other major cities across the United States, I get the impression that Minnesota, specifically the Twin Cities, isn’t known for its diversity. While I can’t really help what we’re “known” for, I disagree with those who opine in favor of that observation. I believe it’s an opinion formed by people who don’t spend much time digging into the richness of the arts and social scenes here in the Twin Cities area.

This weekend catch a great opportunity to celebrate some of our rich diversity as Sistah Solo comes to Patrick’s Cabaret this Friday and Saturday at 8pm each night.

Sistah Solo is a celebration of women of color and their solo works, some of which will be performed on stage at Patrick’s Cabaret this weekend.

Lighting up the stage will be six dancers, five singers, three spoken word artists, and one filmmaker (hold the “Partridge in a Pear Tree” jokes, please), which will include such names as dancer/singer/actress Alissa Paris, dancers Angel Adams and Brandi Phillips, and singers such as F.A.I.T.H., Alicia Steele, and Gabrielle Samone, and spoken word artists Pyro and Tish Jones.

The show will be curated by Maia Maiden (pictured) and will focus on bringing this community together. The hope is to actively and collectively engage each other through art, dialogue and much more.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. Or if you know one of the artists, you can get a ticket directly from one of them for $8. The full list of artists in the show is as follows: Alissa Paris, Aneka Starlashay, Angel Adams, Alicia Steele, Brandi Phillips, Deja Stowers, F.A.I.T.H., Gabrielle Samone, Giselle Mejia, Lindsey Hunter, Melanie, Pramila Vasudevan, Pyro, Sherine Crooms and Tish Jones.
