Ah, summer! There’s outdoor fun to be had everywhere if you look for it.

This weekend, there’s plenty of it.

For instance, Sunday the 25th Chiang Mai Thai is hosting their Chiang Banger Block Party on their newly expanded patio on the east side of Calhoun Square in Uptown. The patio is just off of Lake Street between Calhoun Square and the parking ramp.

There will be food, drinks and live music all day from noon to 8pm, as well as games and entertainment for all ages. Dunk tank, facepainting, Thai fashions and accessories by Parichart, and a massage tent by Moe Body Works will all be offered as well.

The music lineup includes live performances by local acts Birthday Suits, Pink Mink, the Red Pens, Bight Club, the Seawhores, Caroline Smith and the Good Night Sleeps, and others. Also performing will be Detroit’s Hounds Below and Silverghost (both featuring members of the Von Bondies), and Marco Polio and the New Vaccines.

Admission is a measly $2 for adults 21 and over, just $1 for ages 15 to 20, and free for anyone 14 and under. Your hosts will be serving up grilled burgers and hot dogs, as well as satays, plus Pad Thai, fried rice, wontons, springrolls, and treats for kids.

Along with Radio K and Moe’s Body Works, Summit Brewing Company will be sponsoring the event and will have a variety of beers available. There will also be Vitamin Water and other non-alcoholic drinks as well.

Remember to stick around after the music to join Ian (of Drinking With Ian) in the Buddha Lounge for Trivia and drink specials until 11pm.

It isn’t entirely free, but this a very wallet-friendly and family-friendly event (as long as the kids don’t pay attention to some of the band names–EEP!!!).
